Sculpture

I wanted to make a sculpture like the one I saw in Tate modern by Giacometti called Pointing Man.

First I made a wire frame in the shape of my sculpture. Then I covered the whole thing in tin foil to give it the shape I wanted. Then I covered it in paper maché. When the paper maché was dry I covered it again with clay.

Then I made a smaller sculpture in wire so that I could see what it looked like. I wanted to make it look more metallic so I tried some wire netting, which didn’t work. I tried cutting smaller pieces of netting but it still didn’t work.

Then I realised that it had been given texture by all the layers of paper maché and clay, so it gave the illusion of metal, Giacometti made his sculpture in bronze and this was the effect I wanted for my sculpture
